Queer & Feminist : Poetry Anthology

Rotterdam: Unwanted Words, 2021 - 211 p.: ill.
uitgave: Rotterdam: Unwanted Words, 2021 - 211 p.: ill.

samenvatting: The Unwanted Words Queer & Feminist Poetry Anthology is a compilation of poems written by a selection of 50 poets and artists based in the Netherlands. It covers a range of topics relating to feminism and the queer experience and perspective, honouring intersectionality and embracing BIPOC voices. This anthology celebrates the talent and stories of our diverse community in an effort to sow seeds of interest, inspiration and enthusiasm about Queer and Feminist poetry. The Queer & Feminist Poetry Anthology was initiated by Unwanted Words Project, an award-winning platform for up & coming queer voices working with poetry and spoken word, based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Unwanted Words is the first platform for LGBTQ+ poets and Spoken Word artists in the Netherlands. We are on a mission to provide a stage for marginalised voices and create an archive of LGBTQIA+ and feminist poets, writers, spoken word artists who need to be celebrated and heard. We strive to create opportunities for queer connection and growth, such as our Queer Poetry Nights event series, spoken word workshops, our Queer & Femininist Poetry Awards and digital content, promoting and amplifying queer voices from an intersectional perspective. This anthology is supported by Gemeente Rotterdam, Pitcher Perfect 010 and WORM Rotterdam.

Queer Sovereignties: Cultural Practices of Sexual Citizenship in the Dutch Caribbean  / Wigbertson Julian Isenia.

bron:
samenvatting: This dissertation examines the reimagination of sexual citizenship by same-sex desiring and trans* subjects in the Dutch Caribbean through cultural practices, focusing primarily on Curaçao. Analysing archival documents, performances, novels, photographs, letters to the editors of newspapers, and erotic lexicons, I propose approaching these subjects' cultural practices through the theoretical lens of what I call 'queer sovereignties'. The concept of queer sovereignties refers to the positions staked out by same-sex desiring and trans* subjects as they reimagine how to achieve collective autonomy within the postcolonial context of the non-independent Caribbean, and emphasises how these positions both disrupt and conform to hegemonic notions of sexuality, gender, and nation.

  2. diversiteit
  3. etnische groepen

When the closet is the grave: A critical review of the Bruce McArthur case  / Amar Wahab.

Sexualities, 25 (2022) 7 (okt), p. 849-866
bron: Sexualities jaargang: 25 (2022) 7 (okt), p. 849-866
samenvatting: The article investigates the social impossibilities and constructed killability of brown queers. It critically focuses on the Bruce McArthur case, which involved the serial killing of predominantly brown queer men between 2010 and 2017 in Toronto. The author analyzes mainstream (LGBT) media representations of the white serial killer as "ordinary, yet aberrant," the queer victims of color as sexually and socially fuckable, and the murderous racism of the Canadian state. The article centers the concept of (queer)necropolitics in conversation with discourses of antiimmigration, anti-Muslim racism and racialized sexualities to situate the generative force of racialized sexualized violence in the case.

Routledge Handbook of Queer African Studies  /

Edited By S.N. Nyeck.Abingdon [etc.]: Routledge, 2021 - 312 p.
uitgave: Abingdon [etc.]: Routledge, 2021 - 312 p.
annotatie: Bibliogr.: p. 280-304.
onderwerpen:
samenvatting: This handbook offers diverse perspectives on queer Africa, incorporating scholarly contributions on themes that reflect and inflect the trajectories of queer contributions to African studies within and outside academia. The Routledge Handbook of Queer African Studies incorporates a range of unique perspectives, reflecting ongoing struggles between regimes of inclusion and those of transformation premised upon different relational and reflexive engagements between queer embodiment and Africa's subjectivities. All sections of this handbook blend contributions from public intellectuals and practitioners with academic reflections on topics not limited to neoliberalism, social care, morality and ethics, social education, and technology, through the lens of queer African studies. The book renders visible the ongoing transformations and resistance within African societies as well as the inventiveness of queer presence in negotiating belonging.

The Future Is Disabled: Prophecies, Love Notes and Mourning Songs  /

Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.Vancouver: Arsenal Pulp Press, 2022 - 333 p.
uitgave: Vancouver: Arsenal Pulp Press, 2022 - 333 p.
onderwerpen:
samenvatting: In The Future Is Disabled, Leah Laksmi Piepzna-Samarasinha asks some provocative questions: What if, in the near future, the majority of people will be disabled--and what if that's not a bad thing? And what if disability justice and disabled wisdom are crucial to creating a future in which it's possible to survive fascism, climate change, and pandemics and to bring about liberation Building on the work of her game changing book Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice, Piepzna-Samarasinha writes about disability justice at the end of the world, documenting the many ways disabled people kept and are keeping each other--and the rest of the world--alive during Trump, fascism and the COVID-19 pandemic. Other subjects include crip interdependence, care and mutual aid in real life, disabled community building, and disabled art practice as survival and joy. Written over the course of two years of disabled isolation during the pandemic, this is a book of love letters to other disabled QTBIPOC (and those concerned about disability justice, the care crisis, and surviving the apocalypse); honor songs for kin who are gone; recipes for survival; questions and real talk about care, organizing, disabled families, and kin networks and communities; and wild brown disabled femme joy in the face of death. With passion and power, The Future Is Disabled remembers our dead and insists on our future.
